What can I do if I sign up for Twitter?
Twitter is an American microblogging and social networking service where users post and interact with messages known as ‘tweets’. Registered users can post, like and retweet tweets, but unregistered users can only read publicly posted tweets. Users interact with Twitter programmatically through a browser or mobile front-end software or through its API.
Development of Twitter
Twitter was founded in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams and launched in July of that year. By 2012, more than 100 million users were posting 340 million tweets per day, and the service was handling an average of 1.6 billion search queries per day. 2013 saw it as one of the top 10 most visited websites, and it was dubbed the ‘SMS of the Internet’. By early 2019, Twitter will have more than 330 million active users per month. In fact, the vast majority of tweets are written by a handful of users.
