How did Tokopedia start?
Tokopedia is an Indonesian tech company. And Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world; with 17,000 islands, it's hard to build infrastructure evenly. Sellers move to big cities for better markets, while consumers have limited access to what they need. This leads to high levels of urbanisation, which in turn leads to a build-up of necessities in the big cities. To stop this problem, founders William Tanuwijaya and Leontinus Alpha Edison launched Tokopedia with a mission to digitally distribute the economy.
