Establishment of Meltwater

Meltwater was founded in 2001 in Oslo, Norway. Legend has it that the company started with two people, a coffee machine, and $15,000 in startup capital. The original address was Shack15, a small office space in an Oslo shipyard where the team cobbled together borrowed hardware to create our first server farm.

 

The evolution of Meltwater

As the world's first online media monitoring company, the team worked tirelessly to educate the Norwegian market about the value of tracking, monitoring and analysing online news. Our footprint began to grow in the early 2000s as the company began operations in Scandinavia, then the UK, and eventually Europe. After focusing our attention on conquering the United States, Meltwater set its sights on the Asia-Pacific region. By 2008, we had brick-and-mortar shops on every continent and an impressive list of customers.

During this time, Meltwater became one of the first companies in the world to offer social listening and social media analytics, and remained at the forefront of industry innovation. In the last five years, Meltwater has completed eight acquisitions, making Meltwater internationally recognised as one of the most prominent acquirers of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science companies.
